Bringing esports alive in Perth with the Supersonic Arena
Over the July school holidays, Ground Zero Gaming partnered with Lakeside Joondalup to deliver the Supersonic Arena — a 14-day Rocket League activation built to turn esports into a real, walk-up experience for the local community.
From free-play stations through to a pro player meet-and-greet and a major tournament, Supersonic Arena was designed to do what great activations do best: create energy, draw a crowd, and give people a reason to stay longer.
🎮What we delivered
Supersonic Arena combined three experiences into one program, making it easy for anyone to join in — whether you were there for a quick game with your mates or ready to compete.
Free-play Rocket League (3–16 July): Visitors could jump onto a station and play Rocket League, test their skills, or verse friends and family.
Meet the pros (Saturday 15 July): Rocket League fans met the Ground Zero Gaming Rocket League team, fresh from competing at the Rocket League Championship Series in Boston. The signing session ran so strong we extended it to 1.5 hours.
Supersonic arena slam tournament: We hosted Perth’s biggest Rocket League tournament, the Supersonic Arena Slam. With 32 teams registering, it brought together grassroots and rising local talent to compete for a $5,000 prize pool.
And it was all free, thanks to Lakeside Joondalup.
🎮Why Rocket League works so well for activations
Rocket League is basically 3v3 football with rocket-powered cars — fast, fun, and easy to understand even if you’ve never picked up a controller.
It’s also:
Family friendly
Accessible (available across multiple platforms)
Great for spectators (people stop, watch, and then want a turn)
That mix makes it a perfect fit for school holiday programs and public-space activations.
🎮Who we are (and why venues partner with us)
Ground Zero Gaming is one of Oceania’s leading esports organisations and a pioneer in community gaming activations. Our Rocket League team competes globally, representing the region on the international stage.
But the real difference is how we deliver on the ground: clear session flow, friendly staff, professional presentation, and experiences that work for walk-ups.
